Mr. Edmund R. Maino

I was born in San Diego, California and was raised in Fallbrook, a small town located in North San Diego County. My mother worked as a nurse anesthetist for Kaiser Permanente for the better part of thirty years and my father is a sitting judge in San Diego County, a position which he has held for almost forty years. I have a younger brother, John, who is a small business owner in Temecula, California.

My wife and I have been married for ten years. We have two children; Rylan and Gianna.

Before I became a teacher, I was a Toyota mechanic for two years and lived in, traveled through, and generally just enjoyed all that Europe had to offer for four months. I received my B.A. in U.S. History and European history from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and earned my teaching credential at San Diego State University (SDSU).

I began my career as a teacher in 2006 for the Poway Unified School District, specifically at Poway High School. I taught U.S. History and was active with the AVID program at PHS for a year.  I was transferred to Bernardo Heights Middle School, also located within the Poway School District, where I taught seventh grade humanities for two years. Due to drastic budget cuts in 2010, my wife (who is also a teacher) and I found employment in Northern California.

Quincy Jr./Sr. High School, located in Quincy, California, was my home for the next three years. During this time I was able to kick-start their AP Government program (which is still going strong to this day). I also taught U.S. History, European history, Government, and Economics.

In 2013, my wife and our small family moved to Tehachapi (a homecoming for my wife who is a THS graduate). My first year at THS I taught U.S. History and Economics. In 2014, I was given the opportunity to teach AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, Government and Economics exclusively to seniors. I will be repeating this assignment for the 2019-2020 school year.

I love working at THS . . . the energy, students, staff, and administration at this school are fantastic! I look forward to spending many years within the Tehachapi Unified School District and relish the idea of building a solid AP and regular Government/Economics program at THS.

If you have any questions about me or my teaching philosophy, please email me so I may answer all outstanding them.
