What is the Career Center?

The THS Career Center has information to help guide students in their career, college and vocational choices. Representatives from colleges and different occupations visit throughout the year. The Career Center technician maintains up-to-date written materials and catalogs on colleges and careers, college testing information and military career information. Monday and Wednesdays, 2:40-3:40, Chemistry with Mr. Erdman, in the career center. Just show up and sign in.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, Math, 2:40-3:40 with Mr. Clifton, in the career center. Just show up and sign in.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, Chemistry, 2:40-3:40 with Mrs. Archie, in the career center. Just show up and sign in.

One on one peer tutors are also available for an hourly rate.

Scholarship Money for College Bound Students!!!!

Hey students, there are several scholarships available now with deadlines for the rest of the school year. Please come in and check the scholarship list in the Career Center on a regular basis as new ones are added weekly. Local scholarship packets will be available in January 2013.

The students who receive loval scholarships will be notified to attend the Senior Awards night This event will be from 6-8pm in the THS GYM.

Face book reminder: Many colleges are now looking at face book accounts before accepting students. Now is a good time to go through and delete all inappropriate photos and/or comments.

Work Permits You can pick up an application for a work permit in the Career Center. You MUST have a job before you can fill out a work permit application. The student section, employer section, and parent's signature need to be completed before returning the form to the Career Center so that a work permit can be processed.

 

ROP Classes offered: 

Day Classes for Juniors (16+ or an enrolled Junior) and Seniors:

Criminal Justice - Introduces the student to each component of the criminal justice system.

Applied Child Development - Instruction and practical experience includes the study of child growth and developmental studies.

Early Childhood Professions - Practice guidance and teaching techniques in a variety of early childhood programs such as public and private preschools, employer-sponsored child care programs, family day care settings and recreational facilities. Community classroom aspect may require students to work off campus at various school sites up to three days a week.

Health Careers - A combination of subject matter & experiences designed to prepare an individual for an entry-level career in the Health profession and/or further education in the health field.

Medical Office (Front & Back) - Designed to develop attitudes, skills and knowledge as it relates to the allied health profession. The course will provide students with the experience they will encounter as clerical employees in the medical field.

Medical Terminology - Designed to introduce students to the medical language used in hospitals, clinics and medical offices. This course is articulated with Bakersfield College. This evening course is open to persons over age 16 and will begin January 18, 2012 and run Monday's and Wednesday's from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. unitl May 30, 2012.

Virtual Enterprise - A simulated business that is set up and run by students to prepare them for working in a real business environment.

College Information for research, tour guides and requirements available

Find up-to-date catalogs on many local and out of state colleges and/or universities which can be checked out for 1 week with their Student ID card. Computers are available for the students to research colleges and careers as long as the students have the internet symbol on their Student ID cards.

Another great resource is www.collegeweeklive.com/ and you may use this to find financial aid and scholarship information, school virtual open houses, chat live with school representatives and many more features.
