Whooping Cough Immunization Requirement for Grades 7-12 for 2011-2012
As you may know , currently whooping cough, a very serious illness also known as pertussis, is widespread in California. According to the California Department of Health, “It is the worst pertussis epidemic in more than 50 years.” For the 2011-2012 school year, a new law now requires that ALL incoming 7th through 12th graders get a whooping cough booster shot, called Tdap, before entering school. This shot is routinely recommended for children ages 10 and older. We are asking that you visit your health care provider to have your student receive the shot before the beginning of next school year.
Please bring a copy of your student’s updated shot record to the school office; without proof of this immunization your student may not be admitted to begin school for the 2011-2012 school year.
